So over the past few months, I've discovered that any time I eat more than a couple servings of dairy in a day, Clay gets fussy, spits up more often, and just generally is unhappy and bear-ish. Sunday, I ended up having 4 servings of dairy..and on Monday, Clay had blood in his bm. I went WTF?! I didnt freak out though, just was concerned..it wasnt a ton, just a little more than a trace amount. I called the dr, and she had us come in. Well, along with the blood..Clay has become a bear at night..and I dont mean the cuddly kind, well, maybe I do....all he wants is to cuddle and nurse ALL NIGHT LONG!! He has gotten to where he refuses to sleep in his bed anymore. He wakes up within 15 min of being laid down...that equals a miserable mommy. :(
After talking to the pediatrician yesterday, I am cutting dairy out of my diet. I can have foods that have dairy cooked into them, as long as they are minimal. But, realistically, its probably better for elimination purposed to cut those out too. If after 2 weeks, Clays still having problems, then we move on to gluten..and then from there..but I'm trying not to think about 2 weeks from now. Instead I am focusing on not eating DAIRY! :( I miss it already. I usually have a glass of chocolate milk after lunch, not now..in fact..no chocolate even!! :(( can you imagine a day without chocolate?! nevermind a WEEK?!? or 2?!!? or possibly more?!!? I guess I'll learn to live...this will probably help me lose weight too!! LOL
On top of the dairy allergy, we are working on a new sleep routine, for both children. We started last night. I put Emily to bed at 8pm (instead of her usual 9pm bedtime--9pm because Micheal usually gets home around 830ish). We read a book and discussed it, then talked a little about our day yesterday, and what we would do today, then we said our prayers. Clay started crying at that point, and Emily told me to go take care of Clayton and come back and check on her in a few minutes. So I said I would. I left her book on her bed with her (it was still daylight, so she could read if she wanted to.) Gave her a kiss and left the room (leaving the door open.) (She was awake when I checked in on her 10 min later, but asleep 10 min after that..right around 830.)
When I got back in the living room, Clay was fussing because he was hungry. I fed him, he dozed off. I woke him up as (on purpose) as I got up to go lay him in his bed..then I kissed him goodnight, laid him down, turned on the nightlight and left the room. The crying started as soon as my arms were off him. About 4 min later, I went in and checked on him, he was ok, still crying, but ok, and I left the room without being noticed. Still crying a few min later, I check again, leave. A few min after that (around 13 min of crying now), I go in, try to soothe him while hes in bed, nope, that didnt work, I gave in. I picked him up, took him back in the living room, he was WIDE AWAKE. Failure #1. I laid him on the floor on his blanket, gave him a few toys, and let him play. When he started fussing, Mike picked him up and held him and played with him for a bit. He fell asleep on Mike's shoulder, I picked him up, and took him to bed, waking him up a little along the way, so that hes aware hes going to bed, and wont wake up freaking out because hes in bed not on daddys shoulder. He cried when I let go of him. Same routine again, this time letting him know I was there, telling him I love him, and its ok, go to sleep, and gone in 60 seconds or less. After 15 minutes or so, no, he wasnt having it, was past the point of hysterical crying, gagging. I went in, picked him up, sang him a song to try to soothe him...nope, wide awake. Grrrrrrrrrrrrreat. Failure #2. Sooooo I bring him back in the living room, lay him BACK on the blanket, give him toys again, I think I may have fed him first? It's a bit of a blur... Anywho, when he started rubbing his eyes and seeming drowsy, I picked him up, talked to him softly while walking to bed, laid him down, still talking softly, then I walked out. The crying began..this time, before I went to check on him, he was asleep!!
Micheal and I had been watching a movie called "Shoot'Em Up"..pretty good..same guy from a movie we just watched, cant remember the name, cant remember the guys name...I cam ein, told him I was going to bed...he said the movies almost over...so I stayed up another 10 min to see the end. It was quite good for being a shoot'em up style movie lol (I like some shoot'em ups...others, not so much..this one had stuff to appeal to women too..kinda LOL well..there was a baby..LOL) Anywho, went to bed, got to sleep before Micheal finished his routine. Clay woke up for a few moments when Micheal made a loud noise, but fussed only for a few seconds and was right back asleep. He slept till 330ish (over 5.5 hours) before waking up..I fed him, laid him down awake but sleepy. He protested a little, I handed him a toy, and I laid down and went back to sleep almost immediately. I woke up about 20 minutes later, he was fussing a little, but then he fell asleep, so I went back to sleep. That was it. Next thing I know Emily was waking me up at 7am, moments later Clay started crying. LOL
Not bad for the first night, I'm PRAYING it wasnt a fluke!! LOL Oh, somewhere in there, Emily woke up (while Micheal was outside I think--before I had gone to sleep, but after I'd gone to bed) and wanted a drink of water..I THINK..that may have been the night before though..its still all a blur of exhaustion.
Now...on to today...Clay got tired and I laid him down at 950, sleepy but awake..he cried for 7-8 minute and was asleep. He woke up once at the one hour mark, for a minute or two, and went back to sleep..slept through the dogs barking, Emily playing and howling and crying and laughing (all of which normally wakes him up..he can go to sleep and sleep through a Train Wreck [the band a few friends are in] concert, but will wake up super quick if he hears Emily in the other room!! LOL) He slept till 1215. At 1230 I put Emily down for her nap. I read her a story, and handed her her books for her to look at for a bit. At 1, she was still awake and I had to go in there and take a toy away from her that she had obviously gotten out of bed to get, since it was by the door. By 120 she was asleep. Now, an hour later, Clay just nursed himself to sleep, I woke him up just a little, so he'd see the change in his surroundings, he started choking on a burp, I sat him up, burped him better. Then I laid him back down, gave him back his snuggly (used to be Emilys..yes its pink..but he loves it, thats what matters) and left the room. Then I came in here and finished this post that I started while Clay was down for his first nap. LOL I swear it takes me forever to do anything!!
Hmm..I'm pondering a nap myself..but if I always nap while they are napping, I'll never get anything done. Instead, I'll clean. We did laundry at my inlaws house on Sunday..and it hasnt been folded/put away yet..should I do that? or should I pick up the mess that is the floor? Hmm..I think the floor!! LOL I can do the laundry while the kids are up..the floor, not as easily. (Emily climbs on my back and plays horsey!) lol Gotta go clean now!! Oh, and I'm taking volunteers to wash my dishes :) Anyone? No one? *sniffle sniffle* FINE! I guess I'll do them myself...*pout* that'll teach me to get out of the short-lived habit of doing them after dinner each night (or at least the next morning!)
